Three years ago, I created this blog entry about the suicide of Tyler Clementi because I wanted to record my “profound” thoughts about it. I did not do it at the time, and now I don’t remember any of those “profound” thoughts. So let me just write down what I think about this in personal terms.
I thank God that communications technologies were not as developed when I was in college as they are today, because I may have done the same thing that Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei did. And, as I talk about in my homophobe mea culpa blog post, I would have had no rational or moral or religious reason for doing so. I would have only wanted to impress people so that my social “status” would rise.
