Bill Maher’s Use of Opinion Polls of Muslims is Ahistorical and May Justify Violations of Their Human Rights

A friend forwarded me a September 2014 video telling me “you’re swimming upstream in your defense of Islam.” Not knowing I was defending Islam (I see my political stances as defenses of human rights of people, including Muslims.), I replied, “only out of respect for you did I waste 3 minutes listening to Bill Maher.” He then wrote, “Who better than you, to point out where he’s right and where he’s wrong? In Augusta, Georgia, USA, our peace group published a column on its website objecting to our governor’s executive order prohibiting Georgia government agencies from aiding Syrian refugees. When our local daily paper published it as a letter to the editor, one online commenter referenced an incident in the Republic of South Africa as evidence that the USA should not accept Syrian refugees. My Mixed Feelings about Chapel Hill Shooting Vigils

Craig Stephen Hicks (46 years old) killed Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23 years old, his wife, Yusor Mohammad, 21, and Yusor’s sister, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA, Tuesday, February 10, 2015 by shooting them in the head execution style in Deah’s and Yusor’s condominium.
